Tandyrs are unique ceramic artifacts that consist of a simple design and have historically played a significant role in the lives of various peoples inhabiting Asia. Even today, they hold a special place in the cultures of Asian nations for preparing various dishes and are also used for heating rooms. It can be confidently stated that tandyrs are a cultural treasure and shared heritage of many Asian peoples. In Central Asia and Kazakhstan, the origins of these ovens date back to ancient times, as confirmed by archaeological data. A general overview of archaeological research on medieval fortresses, settlements, and cities in Southern Kazakhstan reveals that extensive information about tandyrs has been collected to date. The volume of available material allows for the examination of the characteristics of these ceramic ovens. This study reviews several archaeological sites along the Lower and Middle Syrdarya (Zhankent, Sortobe 1, Karatobe, Otrar) where tandyrs have been found. The materials from the examined sites showcase the diversity of tandyr types, explore their technological features, and define their functional significance, role, and place in the lives of medieval society.
