Abstract

The article examines the life of one of the famous Kazakh scientists, archaeologist, Doctor of History, professor, Academician of the Academy of History and Social Sciences Sayden Zholdasbaev (1936–2021), the scientific path in the field of historical sciences, including archaeology and ethnology, and the years of teaching at the university. After graduation from the University in 1963, S. Zholdasbayev soon chose the path of science and research. At first, he worked in research institute, then in the universities as the teacher, the associate professor, professor, head of the department, the director of research center. He is one of the first scientists in Kazakhstan who organized an expedition on paleoethnographic research. S. Zholdasbaev conducted research on more than 250 winterings, as well as excavations of about 400 estates. He focused his interest on archaeological materials of the period of XV–XVIII centuries. He successfully defended his Candidate thesis in 1975 and the Doctoral thesis in 1997. As the result of the research work, he has written 10 monographs, 34 textbooks and more than 300 scientific and popular-scientific articles. Having devoted his entire life to archaeology and ethnology, S. Zholdasbayev studied the material and spiritual culture of the Kazakh Late Middle Ages: urban construction, stationary house building, agriculture and crafts, customs and traditions. At the end of the article, there is a list of works by S. Zholdasbayev, who wrote many scientific articles, monographs and books in the field of science and education.
