CARPOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF MATERIALS OF THE URJAR BURIAL MOUND

Abstract

The article presents preliminary results of carpological study of materials from the Urjar burial mound (East Kazakhstan). The monument is unique by a single female burial in a stone box with elements of an accompanying complex in the form of the remains of sacrificial food, jewelry, ceramic and wooden utensils. During layer-by-layer clearing of the burial, a large number of fragments of plants, fruits, and seeds were revealed. The study of these plant remains made it possible to establish the intentional placement of plant fruit and plant seeds into the burial, to identify differences in the location of these plant remains, to identify their species affiliation, and to suggest a late summer or autumn period of burial. The first data on the carpological study of the Urjar mound provide interesting material for further research.
